May 13, 1920 - May 12, 2016

GLADYS MUREL HURD, of Mount Carmel went home to be with her Lord and Savior just one day before her 96th birthday, on May 12, 2016 at Holston Manor Nursing Home in Kingsport following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 13, 1920 to the late Floyd Jackson Hurd and Rhoda Giles Hurd in Lee County, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Curtis H. Hurd; 1 daughter Peggy Hurd; 1 grandson and 11 siblings.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Curtis "David" Hurd; 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker who was a talented seamstress. Her enduring devotion was in caring for her precious daughter, Peggy. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She attended Willis Chapel Church as a young lady where she was saved. She later became a member of Mount Mitchell Church in Mount Carmel. Even though Alzheimer's took her memory, she never forgot what the Lord had done for her and continued to give her testimony until just weeks before her passing. She taught us hard work and selflessness by her powerful example and she is greatly missed.
