Joel Alvin Duncan

May 6, 1945 - March 18, 2016

JOEL ALVIN DUNCAN, age 70, was born May 6, 1945 and went home to be with his Lord March 18, 2016. He passed on from his residence with his loving family by his side. He attended Shelby Creek Church as he grew up. He attended Long Hollow Church later on. He was saved a little while before he passed. He wanted to come home and come to church and be baptized, but God called him home.

Joe was retired from Holston Builders where he was a truck driver for 32 years. He was an avid softball player and a two-time state champion in horse shoes. He loved hunting turkey and deer and enjoyed gardening. He never met a stranger and would help anyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Oakel Duncan, and 1 brother, Rufus Duncan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gladys Duncan; 1 daughter, Brandy Murphy; 2 sons, Terry Duncan and Tony Duncan; 1 grandson; 2 sisters, Ruth Lawson and Marie Lawson; 2 brothers, George Duncan and Billy Duncan; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Joe’s at peace now with no more suffering. He is missed by all who knew him. Sleep on, Joe, until we meet again. Walk slow, we won’t be far behind you.
