OMER CECIL ADDINGTON was born August 7, 1915 and passed away on December 19, 2015 at the age of 100 years and 4 months. Mr. Addington was born near Snowflake, VA to the late Eliza W. Elliott and James Robert Addington.

Along with his parents, Omer was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Anita Lea Addington Smith and 1 brother, Orville Addington.

Survivors include his loving wife since December 19, 1941, Violet Gertrude (Smith) Addington; 1 son, Randal B. Addington; 1 granddaughter; 1 grandson; 2 great granddaughters and 3 great grandsons.

Omer was a renowned local historian and recognized as one of the foremost chroniclers of Scott County, VA's heritage. He recorded and kept track of Scott County's history for more than 60 years and served as president of the Southwest Virginia Historical Society. He has played a vital part in that heritage as a student, teacher and administrator in the public school system. As a youth, he attended one and two room school houses, including Mineral Hill, Greenwood and Midway School. He obtained his teaching certificate from East Tennessee State University and worked in Sullivan and Scott County Public Schools. He retired from Scott County Public Schools in 1979.
