Elder Tyler James (J.T.) Elliott

- July 28, 2017

ELDER TYLER JAMES (T.J.) ELLIOTT, age 83, of Sneedville, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2017. Born the son of James and America Elliott, he was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Wilma Johnson and Lucille Ratliff; 1 brother, Harold Elliott; and one great grandchild.

Saved at a young age, Elder T.J. Elliott joined Swan Creek Church. He served his church with faithfulness and love throughout his lifetime. One of his greatest spiritual gifts was that of prayer. Not only did he lift up countless prayers around the altar of Swan Creek, but he also visited many homes and hospital rooms to pray with beloved members of his church community and his neighborhood. Furthermore, Elder Elliott was graced with the blessing of song, and he especially loved to sing “I’m Bound for That City” with the congregation. Answering the call to preach the gospel, he was ordained by the Eastern District Association of Primitive Baptists at Swan Creek Church in April, 1983. He served as the church’s co-pastor with Elder Eckel Head from June, 1984 to June, 1986.

T. J. is survived by his cherished wife, Evelyn Elliott, to whom he was married for over 65 years. He also leaves behind his dear children, Junior Elliott, and Beatrice Hatfield; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and special nieces and nephew.

T. J.’s family loved him very much, and they will forever remember his devotion to them, as well as his smile, his encouragement, and his strength even in the midst of illness. He also had many beloved friends, neighbors, and brothers and sisters in Christ - all of whom are blessed by memories of his kindness and his faith. Elder T. J. Elliott will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his loved ones are assured that he is resting peacefully with the Lord, and he is bound for that city on that evergreen shore.
