Mayme F. (Janie) Hensley

January 7, 1920 - February 3, 2014

MAYME F. (JANIE) HENSLEY was born January 7, 1920 and went to be in the presence of the Lord February 3, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late R. C. and Ola McNamara Crain.

She professed faith in Christ at an early age of 11. She was baptized in 1931 at Gardner’s Chapel Church. She was a member of Gardner’s Memorial Church at the time of her death. On December 28, 1935 she and the late Joe Hensley were married and they remained together for 63 years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 son, Benny Hensley; 6 brothers, Charlie Crain, Blaine McNamara, Mack Crain, James Crain, Hugh Crain and Ward Crain; 4 sisters, Mattie Crain, Laura McMurray, Lora Bailey and Florance Miller and 1 great grandson.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Dorothy Anderson and Mary McKee; 2 granddaughters; 3 grandsons; 2 great granddaughters; 4 great grandsons; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She was born and raised in Sullivan County and was a housewife and farmer all of her life. She was a quilter for many years. Lots of her quilts went to many states and as far away as Germany. She loved teaching quilting and raising flowers.

Her faith and trust was totally in the Lord Jesus Christ. One of her favorite songs was “The Unseen Hand.” She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and neighbors.
