Elder Gregory Eugene Hill

November 14, 1967 - December 18, 2018

ELDER GREGORY EUGENE HILL was born on November 14, 1967 and departed this life on December 18, 2018 at the age of 51 as the result of an automobile accident.

His survivors include his children, Tommy, Brandon, Cody Hill and Tabatha Rhoton; parents, Gaylord and Aubra Hill; brothers, Randy and Bobby Hill; sister, Tammy Pendleton; 8 grandchildren; 2 nieces; and the one he called the love of his life and his best friend, Kim Robinette.

So much could be written about Greg's life, but what was of the upmost importance to him was the Lord’s presence in his life.

Greg was never ashamed and told quite often about the work that the Lord did in his life at Sloantown Primitive Baptist Church when he was just a child. He was baptized and joined the church at Sloantown. Some years later, the church wanted him to be their deacon, but Greg felt like he had another calling. Because of lack of deacons in the church, he let them ordain him. Many times, Greg would tell of his experience as a small child going to one of his family cemeteries and standing on rock and pretending like he was preaching. Greg’s grandfather, Elder Ben Hill, was an ordained Primitive Baptist preacher, and Greg was often referred to as “Ben’s grandson.”

Not long after Greg was ordained as a deacon, he realized that he was being called to preach the Gospel. He later moved his membership to Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, and in 1997, Greg was ordained into the Eastern District Association as a minister. Greg told the story about how shortly after he was ordained that Beech Grove Church asked him if he would consider being their pastor. Roller’s Chapel had been without a pastor for a year, and without having any indication from the church, he told Beech Grove that he felt he would be going to Roller’s. A short time went by, and Greg got a call from Edgar Neeley, a deacon at Roller’s Chapel, asking him if he would be willing to come and serve as the pastor. Greg’s response was, “Yes, I will. I’ve been waiting on your call.” In August of 1997, Greg came as the pastor. At the time of his death, he had served for over 21 years. In 1999, he joined and became a member at Roller’s. He was a faithful member, faithful pastor, and faithful servant.

Elder Greg Hill had a great gift to preach. The spirit was evident each time he stood. As the years of his preaching life progressed, so did his knowledge and understanding. Greg was one that studied and tried to dig deep into the scriptures, and after all his studying and digging, he would say he had just scratched the surface.

Greg's mom would often sing the song “I Want My Lord to be Satisfied with Me.” Greg would speak of this song while preaching and how he wanted the Lord to be satisfied with him. Greg left this world on December 18, 2018 while returning home from Bible study at Wallen’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Oh, how sweet it must have been when Greg got home and heard the angels singing Welcome Home.

One day soon we will join you, Greg, and I know we have rejoiced and praised Him on this side of life, but nothing will compare to that day. We will just press on and try to fight this good fight of faith until we meet on Heaven’s bright shore.
